It always happens, someone is going to suggest Norton or other system hog. You don't need Norton or any of the other pay programs, the above is adequate for home users. If you run a small business (or large corporation) then you'll have to get one of their enterprise solutions (or buy Norton Enterprise).
AVG Free Edition...one of the best.

i would go with avg i never had any oriblems with it
